A 20-year-old skier from Kansas tragically lost his life on Tuesday after colliding with a tree at Winter Park Resort. The Fraser Winter Park Police Department confirmed that the skier was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which occurred on the Lupin trail, an intermediate/advanced slope.
Authorities were alerted to the accident around 10:52 a.m. by Winter Park Ski Patrol, who responded immediately to provide medical assistance. Witnesses at the scene attempted to perform CPR until ski patrollers arrived and took over. The skier was then transported to the Denver Health Winter Park Medical Center, located at the base of the resort, where he was later pronounced dead.
Emergency responders from Grand County Emergency Medical Services also assisted in resuscitation efforts but were ultimately unsuccessful in saving the young man’s life.
